Graduate of Pennsbury High School class of 1949, where she was inducted into the athletic hall of fame for softball, field hockey, and cheerleading. Mae worked at Atlantic City Electric and was bookkeeper for the family business, Sterling Builders. Mae was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; who loved to entertain. Her greatest pride and love were her family and close friends. She was a mother and grandmother figure to everyone she encountered. Mae was a voice of reason, feisty, quick witted, and the heart of her family. Mae took great pride in her home and pleasure in her gardening: she was always surrounded by beautiful flowers. Watching all the birds and wildlife that came to visit her flowers and feeders brought her great joy. She frequently visited her second home in Roulette, PA “The Mountains”. A deaconess and an active member of Absecon Presbyterian Church that shared her love of Christ with her family. Mae was an avid golfer at Greentree Golf Club and her cheers and hollers will be missed during Eagles games. Mae is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, David C. Sterling Sr; her four sons, David C. Sterling Jr (Trish), Jeffery Sterling, Keith Sterling (Brenda), and Jon Sterling Sr. (Debby); her grandchildren, David C.Sterling III (Jennifer), Katie Sterling, Sarah Giroud (James), Jenna Sterling, Jon Sterling Jr, Andrew Sterling, and Douglas Sterling; her great grandchildren, Matthew and Zachary Sterling and Law and Jacob Giroud; as well as a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Mae is predeceased by her mother, Lena Updike (Grammy); her sister, Anna Mae Smolinski; and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Sterling. Her beautiful life will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. Memoriam will be held on Friday, August 27th at 9:30am with services beginning at 11:00am at Wimberg Funeral Home, 211 E. Great Creek Rd., Galloway 609-641-0001.
