November 18, 1945 - June 30, 2016
Johnson, Judith, 70, of Absecon, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016. Judy was born and raised in Washington State, right near Seattle and graduated from the University of Washington at age 21. When the family moved to the East coast, she joined them after college and started work in Philadelphia, PA as a computer programmer for INA as one of a very small, select group chosen from hundreds. She had to pass a very difficult test to be one of that group. This was many years before computers and technology was considered standard for everyone. After several years, Judy began to work for the state of New Jersey and spent the majority of her career training those who had lost their jobs on everything from how to dress for a job interview to how to write a resume to how to address questions asked from the interviewer. She blessed many by arranging education to help people pursue their dreams, whether in nursing, computer technology to card dealing at the casinos. She found great joy, both during the 30+ years in her career and during her 5 years in retirement, when people recognized her and thanked her for changing their lives. Judy loved animals, most especially cats, and after retirement learned the skill of bookbindery which she always wanted. She volunteered at the local Humane Society and the bookbindery. Judy was predeceased by parents, Hilda and David Spear, and Aunt Rhoda Phillips. She is survived by sister, Harriet Spear of Nashville, Tennessee, and brother, Alan Spear (wife Beverly, and daughter Hayley). A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 5, at 11:00 at Germania Cemetery, 100 South Vienna Avenue, Egg Harbor City, New Jersey, 08215. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wimberg Funeral Home, 211 E. Great Creek Rd., Galloway 609-641-0001. For condolences, please visit wimbergfuneralhome.com. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Judy’s name to the Humane Society of your choice.
