Charles W Filling Sr.

April 24, 2021

Charles W. Filling Sr., “Bucky”, died peacefully at home on April 24, 2021. He was 91 years old. Bucky was born in Atlantic City, NJ and graduated Egg Harbor High School in 1947. Bucky started his career as a mechanic at Atlantic Cadillac, in Atlantic City, where he met the love of his life, Marietta. He enlisted in the Air Force for 4 years, stationed in Alaska and on his return, started working for the family business, Pomona Garage. Bucky took over the business from his father and did car and truck repairs, also selling Esso/Exxon gasoline and GMC trucks. He worked alongside his son, Chuck, who inherited the family genes for mechanical work. Bucky was a lifetime member of Pomona Volunteer Fire Company and was honored as Galloway Township Citizen of the Year. He was a friend to all and was always helping others. Buck was a man of few words, had a strong work ethic, compassion, kindness and lived for his family, friends and customers. He enjoyed fishing with his friends, loved animals and enjoyed going for walks and long car rides. Bucky was first mate on the boat, Bucktail, captained by Marty Garbutt with 2nd and 3rd mates, Bus Leuci and Rich Calimer. In his later years, you could find Bucky sitting in the front window of the garage, holding court with his buddies, family and customers. All were welcome and they discussed current events, politics, medical opinions whether you wanted to hear them or not and solved the world’s problems. Bucky was predeceased by his wife, Marietta (Weston) Filling, married for 61 years; his parents, Theodore and Mary (Kelley) Filling; and his sister, Josephine (Filling) Liepe. He is survived by his three children, Susan (Glenn) Paine, Charles Jr “Chuck” (Carol) Filling and Marcy (Bob) Adams; along with his grandchildren, Glenn Paine Jr, Stefan Paine, Dean (Jeanette) Adams, Jenna Adams, Chuck (Taylor) Filling, Christopher Filling; and his great grandson, Aiden Cash Bekete “Jasper”. Special thanks to his devoted caregivers, his granddaughter, Jenna Adams and Za Za, and Angelic Pallitive and Hospice Care. Arrangements by Wimberg Funeral Home, Egg Harbor, 609-965-0357. Due to the pandemic, funeral services are private. Memorial contributions are appreciated, to the charity of your choice, Pomona Vol. Fire Company or Oceanville Volunteer Fire Company, 186 S. New York Rd, Galloway, NJ 08205, where Bucky’s grandson, Dean is carrying on the family tradition. For condolences, please visit wimbergfuneralhome.com
