Anthony A. “Tyke” Schairer, 82, lifelong resident of Egg Harbor and Cologne, passed away at home with his daughters by his side on January 14, 2017. He attended and graduated from Saint Nicholas Grammar School and Egg Harbor City High School. Tyke devoted his life to the family business, Schairer Brothers Sawmill, most recently as partner with his nephew, Paul. He was a 4th Degree Knight-Villa Marie Council of the Knights of Columbus. Tyke was a member of the American Legion Post 430 and Cologne Grange. In his earlier years, he loved square dancing with his wife as a member of the Haylofters Square Dance Club. Tyke was a bingo caller and organizer for many years for Assumption Regional School and more recently, an avid bingo player at The Galloway Senior Center. He is fondly remembered for welcoming neighborhood teens to hang out on the Schairer front porch. He is predeceased by beloved wife, Helen Casey Schairer and his siblings, Marie Edwards, Hermine Dey, Helen, Joseph, John, Carl, Bernard, and Henry. Tyke is survived by his daughters, Penny Reilly (Thomas), Terry Hackney (Donald), Linda Matlack (Donald), June Catania (Blaze), and Katie Svendsen (Eric); grandchildren, Keith, Liz (Tim), Samantha, Raymond, Rachel, Mica, Sonya, Levia, Boaz, Kelly, Julianna, Brian, Leif, Annalyse, Bjorne; his sister, Theresa Herring; and sisters-in-law, Ida, Rose, Anne and Shirley. Visitation will be held at Wimberg Funeral Home, 400 Liverpool Ave, Egg Harbor City 609-965-0357 on Wednesday, January 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. And again at St. Nicholas Church, 525 St. Louis Ave, Egg Harbor City, on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
